2009 Review

PARENTS OF GRADUATES:  Would you recommend this course to other teens and families?

  • Yes!  It helps teens to use their voice and helps them to talk to parents without anger or shutting them out completely.
  • Yes, it helped my daughter's attitude.
  • Yes, my daughter is happier and tells the truth more.

WHAT TEEN GRADUATES ARE SAYING:

  • She [the facilitator] guided you through tough times, but the good also.
  • I learned a lot. I learned to be open and that I am strong and that I am bigger than my fears. My favorite thing about the workshop was the openness.
  • I was able to express my feelings without people judging me.
  • The honesty and secureness.  The love and feelings that were shared.
  • It felt like you were talking just to me and I dug out stuff that I haven't realized before, such as the loneliness I felt when my parents got divorced and I moved here. I lost everything, but really I didn't, I gained it all back.

WHAT ADULT GRADS ARE SAYING:

I have learned so much through this program, not only about kids, but also about myself. --Adult Volunteer

What a great group of excellent teachers! That three-day weekend did so much for me! --Cold Springs, MN.

Thank you so much for such an awesome weekend. --Pleasanton, CA.

The training itself was a joy. It was inspirational to be in a room with so many other people who shared the same commitment and passion for creating a world of whole and happy children. --Boise, ID.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

NEW!  To Walkin' the Talk board members: I recently went through the CEIA training with Sue B. It was a great experience- I am truly inspired to bring this to my school. Thank you so much for contributing to this amazing program. -- Elementary Counselor, Meridian School District (Fall 2008)

My students loved the unit.  They couldn't wait to learn more about themselves.
--Teacher

I can't begin tell you what a difference your course has made to our students.
--School Counselor

Walkin' the Talk gives our troubled children what they need to grow and prosper.  --Former County Sheriff

The Walkin' the Talk programs fill an important role in the education of our children, and the emphasis is on personal accountability through integrity.  The ideal would be to reach every teenager in schools throughout the country.

--Dean College of Education

The kids have been flying high. This training has given 22 codependent, unaccountable children the skills to reach out to the world they live in and make a difference. They are very committed to the vision of community offered through the course. --Parents In Training, Teen Course Sponsor

Walkin' the Talk workshops help teens feel safe and valued as they share
personal life experiences in a way that other teens can relate to, which is
where many programs miss the mark. It is because of this unique distinction
that teens are able to share openly and meaningfully about such difficult
subjects as anger, fear, anxiety and frustration, and then strategize on how
to make positive changes in a real and functional way.

Unlike many programs that treat painful symptoms or offer a Band-Aid approach when things aren't working, the Walkin' the Talk courses address the source and the drive behind behaviors. --Youth Programs Director

Walkin' the Talk creates a totally safe environment for teens to open up their minds and hearts and share their deepest concerns and needs. Most importantly, Sue (the founder) has condensed over twenty years of work with teenagers into a concise, experiential and highly successful teaching module.
